Hunter Original Wellington Boots

Descending from the Original Wellington boot that was first designed in 1817; the Original Hunter Wellington Boot was developed by Mr. Henry Lee Norris. An American entrepreneur with a vast knowledge of manufacturing in rubber, he arrived in Scotland in 1855 in order to find a new home for his new rubber footwear factory. At first only employing four people, the company not only made waterproof footwear, but made conveyor belts, hot water bottles, combs, tyres and golf balls, eventually branching out into making rubber hoses and belts. By 1875 the company had expanded to 600 employees.

Of course, both World War I and World War II were instrumental in boosting the advent of boot manufacturing. During World War I 1,185,036 pairs of Original Wellington boots were manufactured while the mills ran 24 hours a day. During World War II, 80% of the mill’s operation went for war materials, to include Original Wellington boots, ground sheets, gas masks and life belts.

Moving forward 100 years, the first Hunter Original Wellington boot was introduced in 1955. Actually, there were two new boots, the Original Hunter Wellington boot and the Royal Hunter. The Hunter Original Wellington Boot was the first rubber boot manufactured to accommodate those who had orthopaedic requirements that demanded a more accommodating fit. They also began to be popular with those employed in the mills and factories, eventually becoming widely worn by both men and women alike. Growth was slow, but steady, and in 1977 Hunter was awarded a Royal Warrant from HRH the Duke of Edinburgh, followed by a Royal Warrant from HM The Queen almost a decade later.  In 1972 Paddington Bear donned his red wellies and in 1981 Lady Diana Spencer wore a pair of Hunter Original Wellington boots in her engagement photos.

In 2005, Hunter Original Wellington boots launched in the U.S.A. and now has a showroom on 7^th Avenue in New York City. But, you don’t have to go to New York to get the Hunter Original Wellington boot. You can get it right here. However, before you proceed, you should know that the Hunter Original Wellington is a very fitted, tall boot and not recommended for people less than 1.5 meters in height, as it may catch at the back of the knee.
