Muckboots

Muckboots started out in 1999 in the USA.  The development team were fed up with wellington boots that were cold and uncomfortable and in many cases unable to survive in extreme conditions.  Taking on developments that had occurred in the sports and safety boot fields Muckboots was formed.  The brief was simply produce a wellington boot that was warm, comfortable, durable and lightweight.  The team looked at many products and found the ideal material that would keep a wellington lightweight and comfortable, it was neoprene that had been used in many extreme conditions over the previous 50 years.  Now all they had to do was incorporate the neoprene in to a rubber boot that would be durable and lightweight.  Initially this proved to be a difficult process but within two years the first Muckboot made is debut in The UK as the Derwent.  The boot incorporated a heavy duty lightweight sole with a thick rubber outer.  This gave great support to the foot and protection for the toe and heel.  The made the boot lightweight by simply taking the rubber up to the ankle and then letting the Neoprene lining cover the upper leg keeping the wellington waterproof to the top. 

It took a while for the new style wellington to establish in the UK unlike the States because in America they had been waiting for a tough wellington that would keep feet warm in freezing conditions and this boot soon became established as Americas favorite wellington boot in the colder northern areas.  The success in the States pushed Muckboots to Establish their wellingtons in to Europe and many Countries including Germany soon took to the boot because of it;s properties that were so in tune with the weather in these areas of Europe. 

The UK quickly followed as word spread that a new comfortable boot was now available.  As soon as the Derwent Muckboot had established itself in Europe and America Muckboots introduced new styles that offer specific advantages depending on the task in hand.  The first introduction after the Derwent was the tack classic.  Primarily this was introduced for the equestrian market while mucking out in the yard.  The boot had a low profile grip so that the sole would not pick up so much waste material and the sole was nice and light making them ideal for smaller feet.  The next introduction again fuelled by the equestrian market was the Tyne.  This was primarily a Muckboot with a sole that was suitable for riding.  Again the rubber was similar to the tack although muckboots soon realized that the rubbing against the horse caused the neoprene to all up so the mark 2 was introduced in 2006 which had the rubber outer further up the leg so that this would not happen.  The boot remains unaltered to this day other than having the new revolutionary air mesh lining fitted to the boot. 

The next development based on customer feedback was the Tay.  This was an ideal boot for heavy mud and snow because of the unique structure of the sole.  The tread has been left very open and the reason for this was so that it did not clog up with mud or snow.  The boot was produced with the airmesh lining and again this boot remains unchanged today other that the introduction of the Greta which gave more colour to the wellington.  In the same year new introduction included a waterproof shoe and a clog plus a heavy duty Esk with the airmesh lining.  The Esk covered a gap that had appeared in the more commercial market including landscape Gardeners. 

During 2009 the UK saw the introduction of the Muckboots sport.  These were based on the original Muckboots but with more insulation.  The Muckboots sport would keep feet warm to temperatures as low as minus forty where as the Original Muck boot would keep feet warm to minus twenty centigrade.  In 2010 easy wellies stocked the sport but soon found that the boots were being returned because they were to warm.  Because of this most of the Sport were shipped to Norway, The Arctic and the Antarctic.  We have now discontinued this boot and do not intend to stock it again.
