Wide Fitting Wellingtons

Wellington boots have become a popular choice of practical footwear for areas that experience high levels of rainfall.  Great for muddy or wet conditions and great in the snow.  One of the most common questions we are asked by customers that are trying to buy a pair of wellingtons is the size of the calf of the boots.  This is because many have large calfs or over developed calfs.  This particularly applies to those customers who partake in sports such as cycling, running or walking.  Indeed young adults who perform a lot of dance and in particular ballet dancer can develop calfs as large as 50cm  Because of this we have introduced a wide calf wellington boot section.

Short Boots for Wider legs

The simplest way to find a pair of wellingtons that will fit wider calfs is to purchase a short boot.  For example the Hunter original short or a Dunlop short wellington boot.  The boot is a standard fit rather than a wider top but the main advantage is that the boot finishes below the calf so eliminating the problems associated with all boots and in particular wellington boots.

Neoprene Wellies stretch for calfs up to 50cm 

The neoprene topped wellington boot is an ideal boot for wider calfs because the top is stretchy.  So regardless of calf diameter these boots will fit.  On top of this the neoprene is waterproof to the top and the boots are lightweight, insulated and comfortable.  There are many to choose from but our firm favorites are the Muckboots or the Muddies.  The Muckboots are less flexible than the Muddies but we do think that they last a lot longer so if you use your wellies for walking and have wider calfs then this would be our preferred choice..

Large Gusset wider calf wellies

The wide gusset in this style of boot offers adjustable boots that can cater for wider calfs or for thicker trousers and socks.  The Gusset needs to be quite long before it can be of any use so these are longer gusset boots that will make it practical to use.  The ranger starts with the Hunter adjustable wellington which is based on the Hunter original but the boot has been fitted with a long wide gusset that can cater for wider calfs up to 47cm.  The second most important welly in this section is the Aigle wellington as these gain are designed to cater for the European leg and will give plenty of room.  Hunter do produce a premium range of technical wellington boots called the Balmoral and these again have a useable gusset that caters for most legs plus they have a heavy duty technical sole.  Our own range of easy wellies are listed in this category because they have been designed to fit the European leg with a wider top built in to the boot plus a smaller gusset.  These are a great alternative to the cheap Funky boots that seem to have been made for much smaller legs.  These will cater for legs up to 42cm.
